Geographie

Der Ort liegt in einer Oase der Sahara nahe der Grenze zu Algerien.

Demographie

Tessalit hat 5.739 Einwohner.cite-ref-1[1] Die BevΓΆlkerung besteht vorwiegend aus Tuareg. Anfang Februar 2012 eroberten Rebellen der Nationalen Bewegung fΓΌr die Befreiung des Azawad (MNLA) Tessalit.cite-ref-tazhub-2-0[2] Am 9. Februar 2013 nahmen franzΓΆsische und afrikanische Truppen Tessalit ein.cite-ref-3[3]

Infrastruktur

Der Ort verfΓΌgt ΓΌber eine Landepiste und liegt an der Tanezrouftpiste, die Gao in Mali mit Reggane in Algerien verbindet.

Tessalit ist verschwistert mit dem franzΓΆsischen Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

Tessalit ist Heimatort der Band Tinariwen.
